19 Jan Caitlin’s Story
We are honored to post our newest story on how God is miraculously changing Caitlin’s life here at Adult & Teen Challenge in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia! We hope you enjoy reading about Caitlin’s transformation!
1.What’s your first name?
2.How long have you been in the program?
3.Tell us a little about your upbringing?
I was raised in a Christian home. I always worked for my parents growing up. I never went without. I was very rebellious and never liked to be disciplined. I have two brothers and one sister.
4.When did you start using drugs?
I started using pills and drinking alcohol at the age of fourteen. At age seventeen I tried meth. When I was twenty years old I started to shoot meth and heroin.
5.What led to you making the choice to use drugs?
When I was younger I started to use drugs because of the friends I choose to hang around with. At the age of nineteen I got my daughter taken away and lost control…this was when I decided I had nothing left to live for.
6.What was your rock bottom that brought you to Teen Challenge?
I was shooting anything I could work up in a needle. I didn’t care about myself or anyone around me getting hurt. All I cared about was my next high. I was facing about six years in prison for previous charges (assault on an officer, 2 DUI and child neglect) and couldn’t stay clean long enough to go visit my daughter.
7.What are you plans for the future?
I plan to graduate Teen Challenge and stay on for a six month internship. I want to continue to get closer with God and live for Him. I believe in doing that, one day I will be the mother my daughter needs to get her back.
Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
9.What one piece of advice would you give to an addict that might be reading this right now?
When I was in my mess I thought there was no hope and that I could never be changed, but deciding to come to Teen Challenge has changed my life completely. God has saved me and gave me hope for my future. I now look to God and ask Him to help me with everything I do. I have never been happier.
