Despair to Deliverance

Despair to Deliverance

Despair to Deliverance

God has been speaking to me for a couple weeks about the word despair, the idea of what despair means and what it looks like in a person and in their life.  The retreat I went on this past weekend even touched on the idea of despair in the addiction discussion.  What do you think when you hear the word despair?

This is what I think: anguish, distress, hopelessness, desperation, discouragement

I read these words that explain despair and I cringe, I feel darkness when I say these words a lot, I get goosebumps because it brings me back to my addiction.

During my addiction, despair was all over me…inside me, living with me; despair was who I was and what I lived in.  Despair was everything to me at the same time…it was horrible!  Despair took control over me and my life..I would run and it would find me, I would hide and it would seek me, I would sleep and it would come in my nightmares.

You are probably saying to yourself, “okay…where in the world are you going with this?”

Well, first of all, I’m writing this to the addict…God laid it on my heart to tell the addict that it is possible to go from despair to deliverance because that’s what He did for me.  I started crying when I thought about the despair I was in during my addiction and how God reminded me where He brought from, where He brought me out of.  God delivered me from a life of despair!  He literally took me from despair to deliverance!

“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed…” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

“The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.  He rescues them from all their troubles.  The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” Psalm 34:17-18

God is capable of bringing you out of not only your addiction, but the despair you feel and walk out in your life.  Yes, your addiction brings you affliction, it makes you feel perplexed and persecuted, striking you down with every hit possible, HOWEVER, God can do what you think is impossible and deliver you out of those feelings!  God can create you a new perspective, showing and teaching you that you aren’t crushed, forsaken and destroyed, being driven to a life full of despair…YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE A LIFE OF DESPAIR and God can make that happen if you only trust Him and put all your faith in Him to deliver you out of this deathly lifestyle.
