Escape the Fantasy
“…those who chase fantasies lacks judgment.” Proverbs 12:11
“…but the righteous man will escape trouble.” Proverbs 12:13
What is a fantasy?…the act of imagining, make believe, an invention made up in someone’s mind. Some people see a fantasy as a fairy tale in a love story or daydreams of that perfect life you want. Others see a fantasy as getting away from the realities of the real world, escaping from their troubles and problems.
Fantasies can be awesome for little kids who play dress up and make believe their grown-up life. It can be fun for little girls to imagine their fairy tale life during sleep overs with their friends. But…what about us, the grown-ups, who have a tendency to twist this idea of a fantasy into something negative and unhealthy.
Now, I’m speaking to addicts and even the non-addicts right now…our grown-up fantasies can lead to trouble. How? People chasing fantasies can get stuck in a life that is not true, not really real. Some people tend to end up settling when they chase their fantasy. The longer you are in that fantasy, the more you become disillusioned of what is real and what is not.
For example, addicts can easily get stuck in the fantasy of addiction. It’s like the addict becomes so consumed with the addiction, this make believe life they think they have control over. This image comes in the addict’s mind that makes them think they can function on their addiction and still live the “real life” they were meant for. The addict can sometimes daydream of what they want their life to look like and expect that it can happen while they are in their addiction…obviously that is not how it works.
“There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.”
“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Proverbs 16:9
As I said before, if we chase fantasies that aren’t really real then we end up settling. These fantasies are lies from satan because he makes these imaginations seem so good and satisfying and easy to live. But…GOD knows better…He knows differently. God knows what our fantasies are, what our easy life consists of but that is not what He created you for. God wants us to live a “real” life, stepping into His Will and walking with Him…it might be harder to walk this real life, having problems and hardships BUT this harder life leads to eternity with God. The fantasy the addict has about thinking they can have the life God intended for them while they are in their addiction is so far from the truth. The addict needs to escape the fantasy of an easy life…a satisfied life in their addiction…it’s not going to happen. Addict…escape the fantasy of your addiction and what you can do in that lifestyle, escape the trouble.
