25 May God’s Best is Better
God’s Best is Better
I wake up, make my coffee and get my cup, get ready for my morning devotions and sit on my bedroom floor with my Bible and journal. This is my favorite time of day, first thing in the morning, spending it with my first love, Jesus. Getting up for my morning devotions is the best decision I make for myself everyday…
A specific devotion this week made me realign my thoughts and allowed me to have a different perspective on who actually makes that best decision for my every morning.
Oswald Chambers once said, “The good is always the enemy of the best.” What he said really tugged at my heart that morning and made me think about my choices I make verse the choices I let God make for me. Our good choices we make for ourselves doesn’t even compare with the best choices God makes for us. So I asked myself, “Is it me, my flesh, that is making the choice to get up and do a morning devotion or is it Holy Spirit in me that is making this best choice for me.” God answered pretty quickly…what do you think the answer is? Yes…Holy Spirit! My flesh always wants to sleep in and makes justifications in my head saying, “well I can do a devotion later on in the day,” “I will do one at night for half hour,” “I haven’t got a lot of sleep and I’m just so tired.” My GOOD choice would be allowing me to sleep in and do a devotion when it’s convenient for me, however, my BEST choice is made by Holy Spirit in me to wake up and give God my first fruits of the day, my first portion of the day…I am allowing Holy Spirit to walk in front of me the second I start my days. Now, you are probably asking why I just told you this revelation I had this week and how it relates to addicts and their addiction…
Well, first let me hit you with some scripture and maybe Holy Spirit will reveal the answer.
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love…Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
“I will go before you and make your crooked paths straight…” Isaiah 45:2
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your steps…In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” Proverbs 16:3,9
To the addict…whatever choice you think is good for yourself, whatever decisions you feel is best for you is NOT the answer. God knows the best choices for your life and you need to let Him walk in front of you and allow Him to decide your steps, your paths. If you think about it, even your better choices has led you down a crooked path towards addiction. If our good choices are the enemy to the best choices that God has for us when not in addiction, what do you think our good choices look like while in addiction?…yes, even worse! God knows you better than you know yourselves and He wants you to give Him the control to walk before you, letting Him see the choices you have to make before your own flesh sees them so Holy Spirit can make the decisions for you. This is definitely something to think about…addict, think about EVERY choice you make throughout your day and where it leads you. NOW…think about what would happen if you let God make all those choices for you…what would happen then?
