20 Dec Jacob’s Story
We are blessed to post our newest story of Jacob’s transformation here at Adult & Teen Challenge in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.
1.What’s your first name?
2.How long have you been in the program?
I have been in the program for 8 months.
3.Tell us a little about your upbringing.
I have a younger sister and we were brought up in a wealthy family that would attend church regularly.
4.When did you start using drugs?
I started drinking at 13 years old; smoking pot at about 14 or 15, and started using ecstasy at 17 or 18. I tried everything I could get my hands on.
5.What led to you making the choice to use drugs?
I think that what led me to making the choice to use drugs was curiosity and boredom.
6.What was your rock bottom that brought you to Teen Challenge?
When I knew I was completely lost to my heroin addiction was when I landed back in jail again with another set of felony charges and three new cases.
7.What are your plans for the future?
First I plan to complete the program! Then, I plan on going back to working on cars or being a service writer at a local dealership. I hope to have the opportunity to go back to the jail that I spent a lot of time in and share with the others how, with God, you can overcome any addiction, any problem and any past.
“…We rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
9.What one piece of advice would you give to an addict that might be reading this right now?
If you are thinking about Teen Challenge, I would tell you to do it. It has changed my life and got me back on the path God intended me to walk out.
We pray that Jacob’s story brought hope and encouragement into your own life.
