Life Is So Unfair…But Is It?

“We may impress ourselves with our intelligence and logic, but rarely do we know enough information to be able to say for certain “why” things happen the way they do.  Open up to the possibility that more is going on behind the scenes as you stand center stage in your life.”

~P. Coleman, PsyD

We were together for almost 8 years.  Got married, started our drug addiction together, hit rock bottom, separated and divorced.  We divorced because of our addiction, not because we didn’t love each other; I felt like I was forced into my divorce by others in my life.  When I was in the Teen Challenge program for the second time around and my ex-husband, the love of my life committed suicide and I, myself, died on the inside.  Then the “why” questions started popping up…why did God bring Mike in my life to begin with?  What was our relationship and marriage for?  Why did we go through being together just to get divorced?  What was our addiction and time spent together for?  Why was Mike put in my life just to be taken away from me, leaving me with heartache, an empty whole, shame and guilt, sadness, anger, and scared to love again or be loved?  Life can be so unfair God…why?

Do you think life is unfair?  Did something happen to make you think that?  Are you in addiction and thinking “this is so unfair, why me?”  Are you blaming God for your unfair life?  I know I blamed God for my unfair moments in my life, never getting my “why” questions answered and never being able to see the good that is suppose to come out of the bad situations.  However…

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

Just like Coleman’s quote, we can’t see what is happening behind the scenes, in the spiritual realm where God is truly working in our lives.  God has a way of working our bad into good without us even realizing it because our minds can’t fathom it.  Our minds can’t comprehend God’s ways and thoughts; that is where our trust and faith comes in.  God didn’t make our lives unfair, we just live in a fallen world, we have free will and tragedy will come whether we want it to or not.  Just because God doesn’t answer our whys doesn’t mean He isn’t working on our behalf for our good.  He loves us.  He loves you!  We would be very surprised at what we would see if we were able to pull back the curtain from center stage and see what God was doing for us behind the scenes.  You never know what good can come out of a bad situation you think is “unfair” unless you trust God enough to help you and show you.  I am able to help other people deal with suicide loved ones.  I am able to help women everyday deal with drug addiction because God turned my unfair moments into experiences that allows me to be a blessing to others.
