Mirror, Mirror On The Wall
Addict, who do you see when you look at yourself in the mirror?
I know what I saw when I was in my addiction…
A loser drug addict
A bunch of broken pieces of a person
Hopeless and Helpless
Unimportant and Worthless
I felt like an Ugly Nobody
Empty, Afraid and Lost
A Piece of Trash
An Empty Soul
Remember the movie Disney’s “The Lion King?” Well, my Pastor and Spiritual Father has made me look at this movie in such a different, more spiritual way forever. Remember when Rafiki, the monkey, brings Simba to the water hole and tells him to look at his reflection? And at first, Simba can only see his own reflection but then Rafiki tells him to LOOK CLOSER…and Simba then sees his own father, Mufasa, as his reflection. Rafiki told Simba to remember who he was, which was an image of his father. This paragraph just gave me goosebumps while I was writing it because it’s so spiritual and can explain so much.
So now…addict, I’m going to ask again…LOOK CLOSER at your reflection in the mirror because you aren’t looking hard enough. Just like how Simba saw his own father in his reflection in the water, we should see OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN when we see our reflection in the mirror because God created US (addict or not) in HIS IMAGE! I encourage you to watch that portion of the movie when you can and remember who you are!
Let me give you some characteristics of who God says you are and the person you should see when you look in the mirror…
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
“I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.” John 15:15
“Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” Romans 3:24
“And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.” Romans 8:17
“I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus…” 1 Corinthians 1:2
“God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.” 1 Cor. 1:30
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” Eph. 1:3-4
“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10
“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives…” Philippians 3:20
“So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” Colossians 2:10
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12
“We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people.” 1 Thessalonians 1:4
After reading all these characteristics on the person who God created you to be and who God sees you as, you need to look at yourself in the mirror again and take a deeper look…remember who are you and remember that will NEVER change. God is waiting for His Child to come back to Him and He is waiting for you to see His reflection in yourself!
