Recovery is Hard…But Addiction is Harder
To the addict, can I ask you a few questions?
*How hard is it to find drugs sometimes?
*How hard is it to “meet up” with people or get in contact with them, especially when you are going through withdrawal?
*How bad can the withdrawal be?
*How hard is it trying to hide your addiction from loved ones?
*How exhausting is it to be a different person, changing your identity depending on who you are around?
Addiction takes a lot of work…living and being apart of that lifestyle while keeping up with the demands of the lifestyle. Addiction takes away all your energy and strips you from all your strength…how? Because of all the demands, stress, beating up and beating down you are doing to your body from the inside out just to get your daily fixes.
Addiction is using all YOUR strength and energy while recovery allows you to use GOD’S strength and energy everyday. Addiction requires you to work every effort to keep living but recovery can let God work through you, helping you maintain a better lifestyle. Addiction leaves you with nobody helping you on a daily basis while in recovery God is helping you every step of the way, walking side by side with you in your daily journey.
I asked my sisters who I work with that have gone through addiction and recovery about this topic and one of the leaders I work beside with said this, “Addiction is much harder because you have to run yourself ragged for such a temporary unfulfilled feeling whereas in recovery you actually have things to look forward to like feeling good, eating healthy, things that will actually last.” -BM
“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” Philippians 2:13
God will give you the power and SUPERNATURAL strength to get through your recovery because it pleases Him but He will not let you use His strength for your addiction purposes- that particular lifestyle does not please Him and you have to use your own, NATURAL strength.
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and make me willing to obey You.” Psalm 51:12
Are you willing to let God help you and trust Him to get you through recovery OR do you want to stay in your addiction all by yourself?
The work you would have to put in your recovery is so worth it because God will start showing you who He created you to be and God will bless you with a future you couldn’t even imagine possible. Addiction sucks the life, literally, the life out of you…I heard this saying once on social media about how addiction doesn’t last forever…you either get clean or you die. However, recovery and living a life with God does last forever because you are living and striving towards an eternal life with Jesus…that is why recovery and the hard work that goes into it is so worth it!
