Shake Your Dust Off

Shake Your Dust Off

Shake Your Dust Off

“Shake off your dust; rise up, sit enthroned, O Jerusalem. Free yourself from the chains on your neck, O captive Daughter of Zion.”

Isaiah 52:2

Remember when you were a kid and you would be playing outside, running so hard and fast that you would trip over your own two feet, face first into the dusty ground?  Dirt all over you, covering your face and clothes?  You would be playing tag with your friends and so you would just get back up off the ground, dust yourself off and start running again.  I can see it now, my two brothers doing that when we were kids.

My brothers didn’t care if their knees were scraped, if they bumped their head, had dirt up their nose, or were bleeding from the elbows…they got up, dusted themselves off and kept on running or playing with the other boys.

To the addict who keeps digging their hole towards rock bottom deeper, who keeps falling or relapsing…DUST YOURSELF OFF, get up or RISE UP and try it again, but this time let God’s strength make you persevere and endure your recovery; running the race and pushing through, no matter the dirt, the cuts or scrapes you have.

Just like my brothers, who were determined to get to the finish line of whatever game they were playing, no matter what happened to them when they fell, the same goes with you, as an addict.  No matter what happens at the fall, the important part is the getting up, allowing God to help you stand up and keep going.

“For the righteous man falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in time of calamity.”

Proverbs 24:16

Everybody falls throughout their lifetime, just like every child falls and hurts themselves at some point but it’s how we get up.  It’s interesting to see the connection in how parents teach their child to get up when they fall and try again while God teaches adults how to get back up using His help to keep standing, keep pushing, keep trying.

To the addict: you have EVERYTHING it takes to get up from falling in your rock bottom or your relapse because, as I said in my last article, you are INDESTRUCTIBLE…you are God’s diamond in the rough.  It’s time to get out of that rough, dust yourself off and let God break those chains off you and expose that diamond in you.  Instead of wearing those chains, wear those diamonds God has for you, making you shine for Him.  God is ready to clean that dust off you, are you ready too?
