Kevin’s Story

Kevin’s Story

I’m Kevin and I’m 52 years old.  I grew up in the Republic of Texas and had a pretty normal childhood.  I did not get into trouble and I worked hard.  I was not raised in Church but I was taught good morals and values.  I did not do any drugs or drink when I was young.  I married when I was 18 years old and I started a family.  My first wife died when I was 36 and I began to drink heavily, but was able to maintain my life and career for several years.  I was blessed with another wonderful wife.  We were married in 2006 and life was great for a while.  Then my drinking got worse and eventually led to a series of jails and rehabs.  We moved to Shenandoah Valley in 2012.

I had heard about Teen Challenge before but I did not want to commit to a year-long program or even admit that I needed it.  God finally brought me to Shenandoah Valley Adult Teen Challenge in February of 2015 and that was when I finally started a relationship with Jesus Christ.  Teen Challenge has showed me how to walk with God.

The year at SVTC is not easy but I feel like I am a better man and a stronger Christian since I have been here.  The relationship between my wife and I is better than it has been and it is still getting stronger.  For the first time in years I am happy about where my life is headed and I am excited about my future.  I know I am not perfect but I now try to put God first in my life and that makes everything else seem to fall into place.  Now I am sober and happy, following God with my wife and family.
