Melanie’s Story

My name is Melanie Davis.  I was born in Lagrange, IN and I am 29 years young.  This is my story…growing up I moved around a lot and struggled within my family.  At 11 years old I tried marijuana for the first time.  I had no coping skills and little hope for a future.  Drugs provided an escape and satisfaction like nothing I ever experienced.

As I entered into adulthood, the patterns and habits from my adolescence intensified.  I became bound and enslaved to depression, anxiety and addictions.  I lived in a world of torment, turmoil and utter despair.  I tried everything possible to find the light but the darkness of my life confused, disoriented and paralyzed any hope I should have had for a future.

It took me dwelling in my own rock bottom for years to consider I might need God.  I began calling out and praying for a Savior.  I pleaded with and begged God to save my life.  In less than a year I was transplanted to Virginia by a God of love, mercy and grace.  Since being in Shenandoah Valley Adult Teen Challenge, God has proved faithful, compassionate, gentle, and more than capable of restoring me back to sanity!  My life is being molded and shaped into a vessel of God’s hope, love and glory.

I’m so thankful for an opportunity to serve God.  I pray that I remain open and receptive, willing to pick up my cross daily.  Jesus has became not only my Lord and Savior, but my example in life.  I desire to not magnify God’s love but to reflect the Son in my life’s story.  I owe my life to God and envision a future serving Him as such.
