Call, text, or fill out the form. We'll get back to you, usually within a few hours.

2

We listen and ask a few questions.

Who needs help? What have you tried? What's the timeline? We're trying to understand your situation, not run you through an intake process.

3

We help you find the right program.

We'll research options, explain the differences, and help you make a decision. Then we walk you through what happens next.

Common Questions About Getting Help

We start with a conversation. We listen to what's going on, ask questions about your loved one's situation, and help you understand your options. Then we connect you with the right Teen Challenge program based on location, availability, and fit. We follow up after placement and stay available for as long as you need us. There's no cost for any of this. We're a nonprofit referral ministry funded by donations.

No. Everything SVTC provides is free. The phone call, the referral, the follow-up. The Teen Challenge programs we connect you to are also free or very low cost. They're funded by donations, not tuition or insurance. Cost should never be the reason a family doesn't get help.

Usually within a few hours. If you fill out the form during business hours, you'll likely hear back the same day. Evenings and weekends may take a little longer, but we respond to every message. If it's urgent, call us directly at 540-213-0571. We answer calls and texts.

That's okay. Not every family needs a 12-month residential program. Some situations call for outpatient treatment, local counseling, sober living, or a different kind of program entirely. We'll talk through your situation honestly and help you figure out what makes sense, even if that's not us. We'd rather point you in the right direction than push something that doesn't fit.

This is the most common question we hear. You can't force someone into a faith-based recovery program and expect it to work. They have to be willing, at least enough to walk through the door. But “willing” doesn't mean excited. Most people who enter Teen Challenge are scared, angry, or exhausted. That's normal.

What you can do is create conditions that make recovery more likely. Stop enabling. Set boundaries. Have honest conversations. And when there's an opening, be ready with a plan. Start by calling us. We'll help you know what to say, what not to say, and what a realistic next step looks like for your family right now.

No. Teen Challenge is a faith-based discipleship program, not a clinical treatment facility. It's funded by donations, not insurance. That's actually one of the reasons it works for families who have run out of options and money. Most programs are free or very low cost, and SVTC's referral services are always free. If you need help understanding the financial side, we can walk you through it.

No. Faith is part of the program, not a prerequisite for entry. Many people who enter Teen Challenge have no church background at all. What matters is a willingness to participate and a desire to change. The faith component is woven into daily life through Bible study, chapel, and community. For some people, that's the part that finally makes the difference. But nobody is turned away for not believing the right things on day one.

Start by contacting us. We'll ask about your loved one's situation, including their age, what substances are involved, whether there are legal issues, and whether they're willing to go voluntarily. Based on that, we'll help identify the right Teen Challenge center. Each center has its own admissions process, but we'll walk you through it step by step. Most programs can move quickly once a bed is available.

Teen Challenge is 12 to 18 months of residential discipleship: Bible study, life skills, work therapy, and spiritual formation. The program rebuilds identity, relationships, and purpose from the ground up. Most Teen Challenge centers require participants to be free from Suboxone and methadone before enrollment. If that applies to your loved one, talk to us at intake and we can help you find the right next step.
